Joke is on you — I have never drunk alcohol, I walk or take public transport everywhere, and I have been wearing the same clothing since high school in my 30s. Still, I’m broke. 🙃

I think fast fashion or not, it’s about how you take care of your clothes, how intentional you are with what you buy. Most of my clothes are from shein, and they are good quality clothes that i wear regularly and have no intention of throwing out until i feel i’ve used them up enough.

This is basically not what I experience haha. I grew up not having plenty of money even on my 20s. I spent a little on clothes, bags, and shoes and didn't care about fashion at all. but on my 30s, I earn much more money and make me wanna buy more fashion products haha. Also, I have a better body shape than on my 20s and makes plenty of clothes looks good on me.

I shopped at Walmart recently and still managed to spend more money than I anticipated. It’s not Target, it’s me.

I used to love H&M and I started doing this awful thing of just going there without a plan to see if something is on sale. The majority of the clothing items I bougt there unplanned I never wore and have donated to charity. But I have finally given up after I have bought an amazing skirt this summer. It was the perfect material and cut and I thought I found my staple item for the spring/summer but the skirt fell apart after a month of wearing it! After that, I said never again!

I live in a country where 100 guests at a wedding are considered a lot. Mostly there is no room for people the couple „sort of“ knows, hence you basically gotta go. But then again, the most I spent was around 500 Usd on a destination wedding, that‘s including flight, airbnb, gifts, eating out etc. and a couple of days sightseeing the place.
But I am cheap, and also the girl who only has the one wedding outfit for all the weddings I attend 😂

While there is valuable information here, TFD has become pretentious. Miss the vibe from a couple years ago which was more helpful, humble, real. Please stop the bragging.

Error on the amount saved on food, what you said does not match what was written on the screen. All great advice BTW. My life has always been thrift and ThredUp. Don't normalize shopping as an sport, women being ditz or not able to do math.

Agree with everything. Me and my husband took a flight to his "best high school buddy" wedding to this summer, and stayed there for an couple days. After doing a math of the trip we ended up with whooping almost $3000! Neither of us realized how much money we spent – flights, hotel, rental car, ubers, dinners. Honestly, I almost cried when I realized the amount of money I personally wasted over there. And although wedding was gorgeous , it was a huge waste of money . We literally threw away a whole vacation budget just to hang out with people we barely knew. Guess who didn’t go to vacation this year….So yeah, from now on, I pass on all weddings and do a strict budgeting.

In terms of spending habit, fast fashion is not exactly an evil. For example, Uniqlo is fast fashion, but what they sell mostly are basics. So all you need to do is to make sure you check the labels, you touch that fabric, check the seamline, you choose the style & colours that you know will work for years.

What makes fast fashion evil in terms of spending habit is bcz people got too entangled with “fashion trends”.

You can buy from the most sustainable clothes makers there is, but if you still buy their collection every time they issue new collection, then nothing is different. You are still spending for things you don’t actually need.

I think 90% of cloth companies here are fast fashion.they are even WAY to expensive than what it cost in other countries. It is not considered "cheap" by any means but still is low quality. (I'm from Guatemala)

I do the gift card for Starbucks. I call it my Coffee Allowance and I put a certain amount every two weeks (payday). It helps me budget and keeps me from overspending on food items that I think I am hungry for but actually it looks in the display case.

Gawd things have changed so much since I was in my 20s. Social media has a lot to answer for. It's fkn depressing.

ETA: Love the "I had a lot more circles of the drain to do" saying. So good 🤣
Also that gift card idea is freaking genius 🙌

In the south our drunk food is Waffle House. It's cheap and the only thing open at that time of night. It's not the best for you but like it's basically the same stuff many people cook for breakfast anyways: grits, hashbrowns, eggs, etc. You can split the All-Star Meal between 3 people. I think it's $10 (it's been awhile so could be a bit more but definitely no more that $15 and it's a lot of food)

I’m 25 and I’m already over silly trends like I have a minimalist wardrobe full of clothes I like and yes that includes skinny jeans which were just in style only 10 years ago. I have no need for straight legged pants or flared pants which I never liked. I don’t care what gen z is wearing. I am a millennial not a teenager and I think it’s kinda sad when people try to dress like they’re younger than they really are. Side note: if you genuinely like the style of gen z then you should go for it but not because of youth or how on trend it is.

I used to buy a lot of clothes and only wore a few pieces from years ago. I still shop at fast fashion but I now always check the material first. I bought a knitted sweater about 5 years ago and I can still wear them to this day. I am more of a shirt kind of girl recently and in my pajamas since working from home. I still have my jeans from fast fashion as well. Also, sometimes, fast fashion with great material can last long as long as you don't often put them on the dryer. The dryer usually makes the fabric thinner which I noticed after moving in to a place where I cannot wash my own clothes inside the small apartment I am renting. Well, with the exception of my underwears

I already don't buy any of this stuff except for seasonal flavors of coffee and cookies at target. Taking a mental note of "your body is a temple and so is your wallet" for the next time I want to buy something stupid. I have a problem hoarding lip balm and candles.
